In a night to remember at Jaipur, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned cricket fans and made history as he became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket, smashing a brilliant 101 off just 38 balls in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Rajasthan Royals.
Confronted with a huge 209-run target against Gujarat Titans, the young left-handed batsman did not look under pressure at all. With 11 towering sixes and 7 crisp fours, Vaibhav handed punishment to Gujarat’s bowling attack, leading the Royals to a thrilling eight-wicket victory in only 15.5 overs.
Vaibhav’s 35-ball hundred was not only the second-fastest in IPL history, but also the quickest ever by an Indian, breaking Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball effort from 2010. Reacting on social media, Pathan wrote, “Even more special to see it happen while playing for Rajasthan Royals, just like I did.”

Speaking after the match, Vaibhav said, “It’s a very good feeling. Today the result has shown here. I just focus on playing, not overthinking. It’s my first IPL hundred and a dream come true.”
Partnering with Yashasvi Jaiswal, the duo built a commanding 166-run opening stand, laying the foundation for the memorable chase. Jaiswal stayed not out on 70 off 40 balls, while Vaibhav’s fearless 58-ball innings finally ended when he was bowled — but the damage was already done.
Interestingly, Vaibhav signed his lucrative IPL contract at just 13 years of age, and this month, he marked his debut in style by hitting a six off the first ball he faced. Before this, he played in India’s Under-19 side, scored a triple century in a Bihari local tournament, and even made his Ranji Trophy red-ball debut at 12.
Rajasthan’s five-game losing streak ended with this special win, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Gujarat, despite solid knocks from Shubman Gill (84) and *Jos Buttler (50)**, slipped to third on the points table due to net run rate.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has truly announced himself, proving that age is just a number when talent meets fearlessness and focus.
