Govt announces new petrol and diesel prices

Date:

The federal government on Wednesday announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices, bringing much-needed relief amid rising living costs.

The price of petrol has decreased by Rs2 per litre, from Rs254.63 to Rs252.63 per litre, as per the Ministry of Finance’s official announcement. Similarly, high-speed diesel (HSD) will now cost Rs256.64 per litre, down from Rs258.64, also reflecting a Rs2 decrease.

The new petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan will take effect from midnight tonight and will remain in place for the next 15 days, as per the government’s bi-weekly pricing mechanism.

Officials say the decision was made based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and other relevant ministries. These price adjustments come as part of the government’s regular review of global oil market trends and domestic economic factors.

The price fall, while small, should mitigate the load somewhat on consumers who are already strained by inflation. The public transportation providers, private motorists, and companies that rely on fuels should gain from this revision.

Over the past few months, fuel prices have been a major concern for consumers and businesses alike, affecting the price of transport, food, and other essentials.
