Indian Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh is once again in the spotlight—this time not just for his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, but for the growing backlash surrounding it.
Ever since the trailer of the much-anticipated comedy dropped, calls for the boycott of Sardaar Ji 3 have intensified across social media, with some even demanding the cancellation of Dosanjh’s passport.
Amidst the controversy, Diljit broke his silence in a recent interview, explaining that when he signed the film, “relations between India and Pakistan were stable.” He clarified that unforeseen events—like the Pahalgam attack—altered the situation dramatically. “After that incident, the producers knew the film couldn’t release in India. Still, they chose to release it overseas because of the significant investment involved,” he said.

Adding fuel to the fire, a resurfaced old video clip of the singer-turned-actor has gone viral. In the video, Diljit candidly says, “I have no desire to work in Bollywood. I don’t want to become a big Bollywood star.” The clip has reignited debate, especially among critics who accuse him of disrespecting the Hindi film industry.

Standing firm on his passion, Diljit said, “Music is what I love. I create music with or without anyone’s permission. As long as my heart wants it, I’ll continue to make music—Bollywood roles or not.”
Despite the controversy, Sardaar Ji 3 is all set to hit international screens on June 27, but it will not be released in India. The film is a light-hearted comedy featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, following their quirky adventures while chasing ghosts.
