Macron reacts to viral slap video from wife during Vietnam visit

Date:

A surprising video of French President Emmanuel Macron being slapped by his wife, Brigitte Macron, during a visit to Vietnam has taken social media by storm — and now, Macron has finally broken his silence.

According to international media outlets, the incident occurred as the French President’s plane landed in Vietnam during his Southeast Asia tour. As the aircraft door opened, cameras captured a strange moment: Macron, standing and speaking casually, suddenly received a light slap across the face — from none other than his wife.

The viral slap video of Macron quickly spread online, with people across platforms speculating about what really happened. The moment seemed to catch Macron off-guard, and he appeared briefly flustered before regaining his composure. He then walked down the stairs with his wife, attempting to hold her hand — a gesture she visibly declined. Despite the awkward exchange, Macron remained calm and carried on as if everything were normal.

But the viral slap video of Macron didn’t stay a private moment for long. Social media erupted with humorous comments, wild speculation, and countless memes. Some critics even turned the moment into a debate about domestic respect and public decorum.

Now, Macron is setting the record straight.

Speaking to reporters, President Macron said the incident was simply “a joke and playful teasing” between him and his wife. He dismissed the hype, calling it “nonsense” and criticizing the way a lighthearted moment was blown out of proportion globally.

“It’s shocking how a simple joke can be twisted into a global controversy,” Macron said, adding that recent weeks have seen a surge in false narratives about Macron aimed at damaging his reputation.

He also recalled past incidents where footage of him was misinterpreted — like when a tissue in his hand during a Ukraine visit was rumored to be a packet of cocaine, or when a handshake with Turkish President Erdogan in Albania was described as a “battle of dominance.”

“This pattern of misinformation is growing,” Macron said, urging the public to focus on real issues and not get lost in viral distractions. “Let’s not feed the rumor mill. Let’s deal with what truly matters.”

Interestingly, French conservative commentator Ivan Rioufol weighed in on the situation, interpreting the slap as a symbol of a deeper issue — that even world leaders can face personal disrespect. “This shows men can also be victims of domestic aggression,” Rioufol commented, suggesting Macron isn’t even respected by his wife in front of cameras.
