In a major escalation of the ongoing conflict, Ukraine on Sunday reportedly carried out a daring drone attack on Russia’s Belaya airbase in Siberia, which houses strategic nuclear-capable bombers.
The attack represents a pivotal turn in the war that has burned since 2022, demonstrating Ukraine’s expanding range and tactical acumen.
Foreign media has reported unverified videos and pictures circulating on social media which seem to depict giant fires engulfing Russian bombers at Siberian airbase Belaya. The planes are famous for their long-range bombing capabilities and are capable of carrying conventional as well as nuclear weapons.

A Ukrainian intelligence official revealed that the operation was carried out by Ukraine’s domestic security agency, the SBU. The agency deployed a fleet of drones in what is being called a large-scale assault, reportedly damaging or destroying more than 40 Russian fighter jets stationed at the base.
“These bombers have been used to launch long-range missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities,” the official stated. “This strike sends a clear message—we are hitting back.”
Belaya airbase in Siberia is one of Russia’s key military sites, home to high-speed bombers designed for deep-strike missions. Damaging such a facility not only hits Russia’s air power but also shakes its confidence in domestic airspace security.

Although Russia has not yet officially announced the degree of damage, the attack is being considered a strategic victory for Ukraine as it demonstrates the growing capability of its drone warfare technology.
Peace talks are still being pursued diplomatically. According to reports, U.S. President Donald Trump is secretly attempting to mediate a ceasefire between the two countries. But as strikes like these get more intense, a peaceful settlement appears farther off.
