Water is a national security issue, COAS draws the red line

Date:

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, on Thursday described teachers as the “biggest asset of Pakistan,” crediting them with an unparalleled role in the construction of the nation’s future.

Addressing an interactive session with vice chancellors, principals, and senior educators from all over the country, Gen Munir underlined the accountability of the teachers in shaping minds and defending the country’s identity.

“Whatever I am today is because of my parents and teachers,” he said. “Educators must nurture character, instill values, and pass down the true story of Pakistan to the next generation.” The COAS praised the unwavering spirit of the Pakistani nation and said that when united, “no power in the world can break us.”

Reaffirming Pakistan’s firm stance on Kashmir, Gen Munir made it crystal clear: “No deal on Kashmir is possible. We can never forget Kashmir, and India must know that Pakistan will never abandon the Kashmiri people.” He condemned India’s ongoing attempts to suppress the Kashmir issue, stating, “The truth can no longer be buried. Kashmir is not just a regional concern—it’s a global issue.”

Asserting that India’s internal strife stems from its own oppressive policies, especially towards minorities, Gen Munir labeled terrorism as India’s internal problem fueled by growing discrimination, particularly against Muslims.

Shifting focus to Pakistan’s water rights, Gen Munir drew a red line, declaring, “We will not allow the fundamental right of 240 million Pakistanis to be violated. Pakistan will never accept India’s monopoly over water resources.” He warned that water security is tied directly to national sovereignty, and any infringement would not be tolerated.

Addressing internal challenges, the army chief condemned subversive elements in Balochistan, labeling them as Fitna-ul-Hindustan, and clarified that these groups have no relation to the peace-loving Baloch people.

Calling for unity and accountability, Gen Munir urged for institutional harmony and rule of law across Pakistan. “We must build a state where institutions work for the welfare of the people—free from political pressure, personal interests, or corruption,” he asserted. He encouraged both educators and citizens to reject divisive narratives and work toward national strength.

The session closed on a patriotic note when the participants repeated the slogan, “Ye jo mehfooz dharti hai, iske peeche wardi hai”—a call to remembrance of the role of the army in protecting Pakistan.
